How to Properly Promote New Blog Posts

Writing a new blog post on your website is just the first step in connecting with new readers. However, just hitting the “Submit” button often isn’t enough to promote it to a new audience. Here are some steps you should take to promote every blog post you publish on your website.

Even before you finish writing your blog post, you should have a list of social media websites that you plan to share your blog post on. Online services like Hootsuite and SocialPilot make it easy to schedule the same post across different social media platforms. However, you do not need to have access to a paid service to share your posts on different platforms.

Email to Your List
Some WordPress websites have a plug-in to send out emails when you create a new blog post on your website. You can go beyond this by notifying your entire email subscription list that you have a new post on your website. Try to include a short preview of the post so your recipients know what kind of awesome content they’ll find if they click the link to read the rest of it.

Consider Paid Ads
Some social media websites offer ways to promote your content through paid ads. If you think that a particular blog post is relevant, a paid ad might be an effective strategy to boost how many people read it. Make sure to start small and to measure the performance of any ads that you pay for to see if the target and content get the best results. If you find the paid ads don’t provide a boost to the readership, try tweaking the content, ad picture, or audience to see if it’s possible to improve performance.

Link Relevant Posts
Once you finish writing your post, think about blog posts you’ve written in the past. You can go back to old blog posts to link to the new one if it’s relevant. This way, if someone is reading an old post, they can find the new post through a well-placed hyperlink.

Use Forums and Blog Sharing Websites
You can actively promote your new blog post by sharing it through forums and posting it to blog sharing websites frequented by new readers. If there’s an existing forum post about the topic of your blog, you can share it as a new comment. Make sure you don’t just share the link itself without any written copy; this can come across to readers as spammy. Answer the question or provide valuable insight before providing the link and indicating what information is found in the post.

Conclusion
If you properly promote your blog posts, you can find a wider network of people to read it. Without promoting it, you’ve spent a lot of time writing a blog post that won’t be as effective as it can be. Many of these steps only take a few extra minutes to see the results.
